Tina Fey and Reese Witherspoon are twinning at the Oscars

Tina Fey's make-up artist Gita Bass has revealed why the pair chose purple for the 2016 Oscars.
Tina Fey's Oscars make-up took inspiration from a young Elizabeth Taylor.
Tina was dressed by Versace for Sunday's (28Feb16) glitzy bash, donning a purple floor-length gown. The chiffon number was tightly draped around the bodice, and was a near exact version of Reese Witherspoon's Oscar de la Renta dress.

However, the way the two ladies accessorised the gowns was in stark contrast to each other; Reese wore her blonde hair loose and went for classic make-up, while Tina opted for an up-do with more daring cosmetics.

"We wanted to do a cool, sexy, modern Elizabeth Taylor," Tina's make-up artist, Gita Bass, told The Hollywood Reporter. "A young Elizabeth Taylor."

The vivid purple hue of Tina's dress also featured in her smoky eye make-up, which was paired with a neutral lip to keep things balanced.

Gita used products from NARS to create the look.

"I love purple, it's my favourite colour. I loved it so much I really wanted to include it in her eye makeup," Gita explained. "Purple really brings out the warmth of brown eyes, so I made her eyes the focal part of the look."

She started with an eyeliner from NARS, in Bourbon Street, drawing a sharp cat eye flick which she perfected with the help of a Q-tip.

Next NARS Eyepaint in Tatar was used to intensify the winged eye.

"It's like a deep, intense purple cat eye, and with the hair pulled back it made her eyes slant upward in a really sexy way," Gita said.

Lastly NARS' Audacious Mascara was used to ensure Tina's lashes were red carpet ready.

"(It) really separates and coats the lashes for that flirty look. Very Elizabeth Taylor," Gita smiled.
